Supporting Someone means: -
Getting to know the person you are supporting is so important, after all you are their Advocate and Companion too. Harry is a 27-year-old with learning disabilities, Harry lives independently in his own flat but he is still vulnerable and does require support to help him with some elements of daily living, but also things like life choices, helping him with things like his finances/bills and supporting him to do the things he enjoys doing whilst keeping him safe. Harry loves the football and is an avid follower of the Millers, he also plays the piano. Harry attends college 2 days per week, and as his support worker you would help him with his daily routine, from shopping, preparing meals, helping him with his appearance, but most of all that he is happy, safe, and content and that you support him if anything raises his anxiety or distresses him. Seeing achieve a goal and knowing you have played your part in helping him achieve it, is the best part of your job.
*Harry is just an example: All Adults needs vary and this may include a Learning or Physical Disability or Mental Health condition.
