“My name is Emily* I am 92 years old; I have lived on my own since my husband George died 15 years ago and I have always been independent. My daughter Mary now lives in South Africa and she is not able to visit me as much as I would like her to. I have a fantastic small team of carers who visit throughout the week who help me with things which have become difficult for to me.

One of my carers is call Ruby, she helps me to get up in the morning, showed, dressed and make me some breakfast, a cup of tea and remind her to take my medication, The small team of carers who visit me help to put a smile on my face and make a huge difference to my day.

Ruby sometimes take me for a walk to get some fresh air or helps me to walk to my favourite seat in the garden. We get along so well; we’ve become wonderful friends. She may also come back later in the day to help me with other elements of personal care and help me up the stairs to bed. I am so grateful for Ruby and the rest of my team, they are angels. It’s lovely to know that I’m not alone as I get older and there are people looking out for me.
