Are you looking for a rewarding career where you can make a difference to the life of an older person in your local community? If so, becoming a Care Assistant & Companion could be perfect for you! Could you support someone like Beryl*?
There is no upper age limit for applications, and we have hours available in the NN1, NN2, NN3, NN4 and NN5 areas of Northampton. Experience is preferred but not essential as excellent training is provided. It is essential that you have a driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Beryl* is 79 years old, she has lived in on her own since her husband, Brian, died 4 years ago and has always been independent. Last year, Beryl had a fall in her kitchen, and it knocked her confidence somewhat. She stopped going out to do the things she loved and even became scared of the stairs in her own house and would often sleep on the sofa rather than go to bed. Beryl* is typical of someone you would become a Care Assistant & Companion for, she still wants to get out and about, but confidence stops her, that is where you come in. You would help her with daily routines that have become harder for her but also take her out and keep her independent and doing the things she has always done. This would be things like helping her with her morning, lunchtime, or evening routine, helping to get washed and dressed or reminding her to take her medication. Going shopping with her, taking her to the hairdressers maybe or just simply out for a nice brew. If you also think about everything you do daily, you would be supporting someone to do the same.

This exceptional service is different to any other care organisation in the area, providing a minimum of 1-hour home visits to a purely private client base, but the focus being on companionship.
