“I worked in retail for over 20-years’ but after struggling to find suitable care for my Mum and also seeing the benefits of good, quality care, I decided I wanted to give something back and do something that makes me want to get up in the morning. Then I found this job. Becoming a Dementia Advocate & Companion has been the best thing I have done. Each of my clients are different, but wonderful. Some I offer support within their home such as keeping it tidy, preparing breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or getting some shopping for them. One client needs a little more help, and I will help her get a shower in the morning, get dressed and ready for her day. I thought I would struggle with this side of the job, but I don’t, instead I find it so rewarding. I enjoy spending time with them all, chatting and building a relationship that will last. I work part-time so I also have plenty of time to spend with my children.”
