We are looking for people who are perhaps looking for Volunteering jobs to become a Befriender & Care Companion* in the Coal Aston area of Derbyshire. No experience is necessary as excellent training is provided, being a car driver is essential.

Could I be a Care Companion?

Lots of my colleagues were looking for a part-time job that offers them reward, they are all very caring, passionate individuals who want to make a difference to older people living in their local community, many of us have looked after a relative and realised just how rewarding it can be. We have people working for us from all walks of life and all ages, in fact there is no upper age limit!

You do need to be available some early mornings, lunchtimes, evening and ideally a few hours on a weekend too. I wouldn’t describe this as a job, I would describe it as a vocation.

Who would I be a Care Companion to?

William is an ex police officer who has early onset dementia. William is a very tall handsome man who absolutely loves ballroom dancing and used to attend a regular dance club in Coal Aston. Since his illness he hasn’t been able to continue with his much-loved hobby, this has made William quite sad.  So, William’s family contacted the company I work for, to arrange for William to have a companion. Because they carefully match us to our clients, the fact that I loved dancing too was perfect! I take William to his dancing club every Tuesday and I get to dance too. I will never forget William’s face when I took him back. He was over the moon.

(William is just an example of someone you may support)

Who would I be working for?

The company I work for are a very bespoke provider of companionship led care and support to older people living in their own homes. They are unique because they can provide companionship, as well as care & support so when a loved one is assessed and they are deemed not to need care, this is where they can make a massive difference as they can provide companionship as soon as it is needed. I have been a companion now for Terry for 2 years he has declined in health and his needs have changed, but at least he knows his support wont change.
