Becoming a Befriender & Companion is such a rewarding role, (very similiar to a volunteer) and in this current moment, we need you more than ever in the South Manchester areas of Chorlton, Whalley Range, Burnage, Stretford, Didsbury, West Didsbury, Urmston, Old Trafford and Flixton.
This could be the most rewarding role especially with the current situation in the country. If you have a few hours to spare a week then you could be a local star and help the most vulnerable in the community, knowing you have helped someone is a feeling like no other.
Could you help in your local community?
We have part-time jobs available. There is no upper age limit for applications and excellent training is provided, but you will need to be a car driver with access to your own car. All you need is a big heart. Your welfare is also of huge importance, so you will be provided with all the appropriate protection to keep you safe. Are you looking for a role where you can make a difference to someone in your local community, someone like Annie*?
Annie is 85 years old; she has lived in on her own since her husband died 7 years ago and has always been independent. Last year, Annie had a fall whilst out shopping and it knocked her confidence somewhat. She stopped going out and even became scared of the stairs in her own house and would often sleep on the sofa rather than go to bed. She also wouldn’t leave her house, not even into the garden in case she had another fall. Annie is typical of someone you would support. You would help her with daily routines that have become harder for her but also help to keep her independent and doing the things she has always done. This would be things like helping her get up in the morning, get dressed and have some breakfast and there may be some elements of light personal care. You may get her a bit of shopping; help keep her home tidy or to prepare a meal in the evening or get ready for bed. She also loves to get out in the garden and in the warmer months loves nothing more than a slice of cake, a brew and a natter in her lovely garden. It’s her pride and joy.
