Paid Volunteer, Befriender & Companion, Haywards Heath

£10 - £10.50 per hour, Double rate for bank holidays + mileage allowance

Part-time hours

Are you looking for a new and rewarding career? Would you like to make a difference to someone like Rita*? Maybe you have considered Volunteer jobs? There is no upper age limit for applications, becoming a Paid Volunteer, Befriender & Companion could be perfect for you.

We have part-time jobs available in the Haywards Heath, Horsham and Burgess Hill areas of West Sussex. It is essential you are a car driver with access to a vehicle, and you would need to be able to do some mornings, evenings and alternate weekends.

Rita* is 85 years old, she has lived on her own since her husband, Dennis, died 7 years ago and has always been independent. Last year, Rita had a fall whilst out shopping and it knocked her confidence somewhat. She stopped going out and even became scared of the stairs in her own house and would often sleep on the sofa rather than go to bed. Rita* is typical of someone you would support for, she still wants to get out and about, but confidence stops her, that is where you come in. You would help her with daily routines that have become harder for her but also take her out and keep her independent and doing the things she has always done. This would be things like helping her get up in the morning, washed and dressed or helping her get up to bed at night. Helping prepare meals or reminding her to take her medication. Going shopping with her on a Friday or taking her to the hairdressers every Wednesday maybe? This is such a rewarding role and the feeling of knowing you have helped someone is a feeling like no other.

Come and join the best!

You could be joining an award-winning organisation who focus on a companionship led care service.  They have won multiple awards over the years and have built an excellent reputation within communities across the UK. This exceptional service is different to any other care organisation in the area, providing a minimum of 1-hour home visits to a purely private client base, but the focus being on companionship. However, there may also be an element of personal care in this job. Imagine having Dementia but still being able to go to your dancing class on a Saturday, still seeing your friends for a cuppa and a chat, and just doing all the things you love doing. You would be helping make these things happen every day!

Benefits & Hours

  • Part-time hours are available between 10-15 hours per week (unfortunately, we cannot offer school hours or full-time hours due to the nature of the work);
  • If you have some availability early mornings, lunchtimes, afternoons, evenings on a weekend, then this position is ideal for you;
  • Excellent training is provided and excellent career progression opportunities;
  • This is more than just a job; you will be gaining a friend too!

Do you have a big heart?  If you are excited by this opportunity to become a Paid Volunteer, Befriender & Companion, then we want to hear from you.

*Rita is just a typical example of someone you would support.
