Paid Volunteer, Befriender & Companion, Donisthorpe
£9.40 - £9.65 per hour (Double Pay Bank Holidays) plus paid mileage
Flexible full and part-time hours
Are you looking for a rewarding career? Would you like to make a difference to the life of an older person and someone like Wendy*? Maybe you have considered Volunteer jobs?
There is no upper age limit for applications, becoming a Paid Volunteer, Befriender & Companion could be perfect for you. We have part time and full-time hours available in the Donisthorpe, Swadlincote, Derby and surrounding areas of South Derby. No experience is required as excellent training is provided. It is essential that you have a driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Wendy* is 81 years old, she has lived in on her own since her husband, Bob, died 6 years ago and has always been independent. Last year, Wendy had a fall whilst out shopping and it knocked her confidence somewhat. She stopped going out and even became scared of the stairs in her own house and would often sleep on the sofa rather than go to bed. Wendy* is typical of someone you would support, she still wants to get out and about, but confidence stops her, that is where you come in. You would help her with daily routines that have become harder for her but also take her out and keep her independent and doing the things she has always done. This would be things like helping her get up in the morning, washed and dressed or helping her get up to bed at night. Helping prepare meals or reminding her to take her medication. Going shopping with her on a Wednesday or taking her to her bingo game on a Friday? This is such a rewarding role and the feeling of knowing you have helped someone is like no other.
