Paid Volunteers, Befrienders & Companions, Northampton
We are recruiting Paid Volunteers, Befrienders & Companions living in the Northampton area of Northamptonshire to help older people remain living in their own homes and continue to do the things they love. Are you looking for a rewarding career where you can help tackle loneliness for older people in your local community? We also have roles in the Duston and Kingsthorpe areas.
Nobody should be without company and nobody should feel alone, and you could help to make a positive difference to a person’s life and help someone like Betty*. There is no upper age limit for applications and no experience is required as full training is provided. However, you will need to have a UK driving licence and have access to your own vehicle.
Betty* is 96 years old, she has lived in on her own since her husband died 20 years ago and has always been independent. Last year, Betty had a fall whilst out shopping and it knocked her confidence somewhat. She stopped going out and even became scared of the stairs in her own house and would often sleep on the sofa rather than go to bed. Betty* is typical of someone you would help, she still wants to get out and about, but confidence stops her, that is where you come in. You would help her with daily routines that have become harder for her but also take her out and keep her independent and doing the things she has always done. This would be things like helping her with her morning, lunchtime, or evening routine. Assisting with personal care where required and reminding her to take medication. Taking her shopping or to appointments, keeping her doing the things she loves. The feeling of knowing you have helped someone is like no other.
