We are looking for people who are looking for Volunteer jobs to become a Paid Volunteer, Befriender & Companion in the Burton-on-Trent area of Staffordshire. No experience is necessary as excellent training is provided but being a car driver essential.
Could I be a Paid Volunteer?
People that join us tend to be looking for a part-time job that offers them reward, they also tend to be very caring, passionate individuals who want to make a difference to older people living in their local community, they have often looked after a relative themselves and realised just how rewarding it can be. We have people working for us from all walks of life and all ages, in fact there is no upper age limit!
You do need to be available some early mornings, lunchtimes, evening and ideally a few hours on alternate weekend too. I wouldn’t describe this as a job, I would describe it as a vocation.
Who would I be a Paid Volunteer & Befriender to?
Dorothy* is 96 years old, she has lived in on her own since her husband died 20 years ago and has always been independent. Last year, Dorothy had a fall whilst out shopping and it knocked her confidence somewhat. She stopped going out and even became scared of the stairs in her own house and would often sleep on the sofa rather than go to bed. Dorothy* is typical of someone you would become a Companion for, she still wants to get out and about, but confidence stops her, that is where you come in. You would help her with daily routines that have become harder for her such as getting washed and dressed, but also take her out and keep her independent and doing the things she has always done. This would be things like helping her with her morning, lunchtime, or evening routine. Getting her some shopping or picking up her prescription maybe.
